9/7/22
21.5 km. My foot held up ok. I have blisters on the balls of both feet and a hematoma under the right big toe nail. It was tolerable pain. I am here doing this by choice. I accept the suffering.
It felt good to be finished. I walked with Michele (Florida), Jayne (Oklahoma) and Lea (Germany). We started out earlier- 6:15 am. Done before noon.
There was a wine fountain on the trail today. I had a small glass.
.
Walked through more breathtakingly beautiful Spanish towns today.
Finished up the walk in Los Arcos. Had sangria and little ham and egg sandwiches at a cafe in Los Arcos. Relaxed, chatted and watched the pilgrims wander in off the trail.
We took a cab about 4 miles from Los Arcos to our Albergue. 4 miles less walking tomorrow. I am very good with that.Sitting out by the pool writing this. So tired I am nodding off
Typical low budget Albergue tonight.
$14 per night. Six bunk beds in the room. Coed. Shared shower and bathrooms. Laundry facilities. Feels like a hostel. You see the same people day after day because most of us are doing the same stages.
Very friendly and social. A few loners. Good food and drinks available. Getting more rural. Less English spoken. Cash only.
Bicycles on the Camino: second class pilgrims. Not the same experience. Bicyclists miss the dialogue with strangers and friends along the path. The Camino is better savored slowly. Walking the Camino is an endurance event. I would not recommend biking it.
Dinner coming up in 45 minutes. One of my favorite parts of the day. The food is very good in Spain. Quite inexpensive. To sit and share a meal with strangers who have suffered and communed with you is priceless.
At dinner, met Maddie who knows Cooper at SLO.

I am exhilarated and blessed to be alive and able to have this experience. The paths, the towns, the people. The hard effort. Easy to be in the moment.
Love,
the bear
Last minute update: toe looks bad. If it doesn’t improve I cannot walk tomorrow
